Vapour climbs a column, condenses and re-boils over and over, stripping out flavour and impurities, so what comes off is pure spirit ready to filter and flavour. Which reflux still is right for me?

You have a tap and want the proven option: a T500 or T500 Pro starter pack. The Super Starter Packs include six batches of yeast, carbon and essences.

No tap, apartment, or tank water: the VORTEX Reflux Distillery Kit gives 25L batches with no cooling water, or the Air Still Pro for smaller runs.

What is the difference between a reflux still and a pot still?
A reflux still separates the alcohol over and over in a column, giving clean neutral spirit up to about 93%. A pot still does a single pass and keeps the flavour of the wash, which suits whisky, rum and brandy.

What can I make with a reflux still?
Vodka once filtered, gin once run through botanicals, and almost anything else with an essence: rum, whisky, bourbon, brandy and liqueurs.

What do I need besides the still?
A fermenter, distiller's yeast, carbon for filtering, a hydrometer and an alcometer. Every starter pack includes these. After that you need yeast and carbon plus sugar or dextrose for each wash.

Water cooled or air cooled?
Water cooled stills like the T500 need a running tap for the run, around 200L of water. Air cooled stills like the VORTEX and Air Still Pro use fans and need only a power point.
