Black Rock Malt Extracts

A hopped kit is a complete beer base: pick the style you want to drink. An unhopped malt has no bitterness, so it is used in place of sugar to make a kit beer fuller and maltier, or boiled with your own hops for an extract brew. Black Rock Unhopped Light Malt is made from 100% NZ lager malt and suits pale ales, lagers and pilsners; Amber adds caramel colour and flavour.

What do I add to a Black Rock beer kit?

For a crisp finish, 1kg of Black Rock Liquid Brewing Sugar or another brewing sugar. For a fuller, maltier beer, 1.7kg of Black Rock unhopped malt. Make up to 23 litres and add yeast.

Which yeast should I use?

The kit yeast works, but a fresh strain matched to the style improves most kit beers. See brewing yeast.

What else can improve a kit beer?

A beer enhancer instead of plain sugar, and a steady fermentation temperature.
