Named after the Sauvignon Blanc wine grape, Nelson Sauvin was first developed and released in New Zealand in 2000. Its unique and eccentric characteristics make it a popular choice among craft and home brewers, despite being considered too wild by major breweries. This versatile hop is ideal for American-style Pale Ales, offering complex aromas, flavors, and smooth bitterness. Use it wisely and carefully when brewing, as its low cohumulone levels ensure a well-balanced bitterness. Derived from Smoothcone, Nelson Sauvin's oil profile adds depth and complexity to any brew.
- New Zealand Nelson Sauvin Pedigree: A triploid variety bred from NZ "Smoothcone" and a selected NZ male
- Brewing Usage: Dual Purpose
- Aroma: Distinctive white wine 'fruitiness', gooseberry
- Alpha Acids %: 12.0-13.0
- Beta Acids %: 6.0-8.0
- Co-Humolone: About 24% of alpha acids
- Total Oil: About 1.1 mls/100g
- General Trade Perception: Considered by some as "extreme", this hop is often used in specialty craft and seasonal beers Typical Beer Styles: American Pale Ale, Lager
