A canning machine, also called a can seamer or can sealer machine, seals a lid onto an aluminium can so your beer, cider, seltzer or soda keeps like a commercial drink. This collection has the Cannular and Oktober can seamers we stock, plus the chucks, spacers, fillers, power supplies and spare parts that go with them. Empty cans and can ends are in cans and can ends.

What a home can seamer does

The lid sits on the filled can and a chuck holds it from above while the can turns. Two rollers then fold the lid and can together: the first operation curls the lid edge under the can's flange, and the second flattens it into a tight double seam. Match the chuck to your lid type and the table height to your can size and every seam comes out the same. The result is a metal-on-metal seal that doesn't let CO2 out or oxygen in, and an aluminium can blocks all light, which is what skunks beer in a clear or green bottle.

Cannular and Oktober models we stock

SEMI-AUTO Cannular: a compact benchtop can seamer with no lever, so the seam doesn't depend on how hard you pull. One person can seam a can in about 3 seconds. It runs on 24V DC with an Anderson plug (power supply sold separately), so a spill on the bench isn't an electrical risk. Once it's tuned, the bearings need only a little oil for about 50,000 cans.

Can sizes and can ends

Most aluminium drink cans share the 202 body size, but the lids come in two families. B64 ends come from Ball and CDL or CDLE ends from Ardagh Group (CDLE is the Visy end). A 202 can takes either, but the chuck has to match the lid. The Cannular's standard chuck is for B64 lids; a Visy CDLE chuck swaps in for CDLE ends, a 300 chuck seams 1L crowlers, and a separate chuck handles 100mm steel tins. Table spacers set the height for 330mL, 375mL, 500mL, 1L and tin cans. The cans we sell seam correctly on the Cannular. Cans from another supplier may need a different chuck, and we don't stock chucks for cans we don't sell.

Filling before you seam

Fill cold, fill with as little foam as you can, and seam straight away. The Cannular Can and Bottle Filler purges oxygen from the can and fills to a level set by an internal pressure sensor, straight from a ball lock keg. A bottle and can filler beer gun is the lower-cost option.

Canning vs bottling vs kegging

Bottles are cheap and reusable, but a crown seal lets a little CO2 out and a little oxygen in over time, and glass lets light through. Cans are single use, but they're light, fully gas-tight and light-proof, safe around a pool or at the beach, and widely recycled. A keg is the best way to drink at home on tap. Most people who can their drinks keg first and then fill cans from the keg to take somewhere. For crown seal bottles and cappers see bottles and capping, and the whole packaging range is in canning and bottling.

Can I use any empty cans in a Cannular?

The cans and lids we sell are matched to the Cannular. Cans from elsewhere may need a different chuck, so check the lid type (B64 or CDL/CDLE) before you buy.
