Demijohns, Carboys & Glassware

Glass does not scratch or hold odours and is the best choice for long ageing. Plastic carboys are lighter, cheaper and safer to move when full. A 5L demijohn suits small test batches of fruit wine or mead. The 23L carboy holds a full wine kit for secondary fermentation and clearing. The 10L and 15L sizes sit in between.

Do I need an airlock?

Yes, while anything is still fermenting. Use a bored bung that matches the neck size with an airlock. A solid bung or clip stopper is for storage once fermentation has finished.

Which bung fits my demijohn?

The 25-38mm bungs fit the 5L glass demijohn and the 23L carboy neck; the 37-45mm bung fits glass demijohns from 10L to 34L. Check the product page for each size.

How do I clean a demijohn?

Use the demijohn brush with a brewing cleaner, rinse, then sanitise before filling.
