Caleb is a legend

"Very responsive to my questions. Very knowledgeable. My condenser was lost in transit but they got another one on the truck within days. I've made my first batch of alcohol for hand sanitiser and it all went as it should. Highly recommend Distillery King."

Hand Sanitizer using Turbo 500 Pack

"On our first trial we obtained 4.3L of 90% alcohol which we thought pretty good considering the weather had been rather hot. We have used it to make up hand sanitizer with a 70% alcohol content by adding aloe vera and glycerine. Overall we are very satisfied with this product and are now proceeding to make our second batch. BTW, I rang the ATO about a licence for the still and they said "just go for it" ... unless you are setting up a business they are not interested."

Very effective - recipe needs adjisting for different ethanol yields

"Very easy to use. I think the kit still needs the detergent and no-rinse sanitiser added as the fermentation still needs to be clean. I managed 92% ethanol in first batch and made 20 250ml bottles of the WHO sanitiser. Support and help from Distillery King, esp with government paperwork was very quick and helpful. I'll continue to make sanitser for the local community until commercial supplies are abundant and inexpensive. I can make sanitiser about 4-5 times cheaper per ml than the rare times its available where I live. For beginners like me, the distillation process itself was intense - needing constant water flow control, but easy, I think more information on the risks and best handling of over 90% ethanol should be included. My chemistry degree helped, but anyone who is methodical and careful and includes safety wear and fire precautions should have no trouble."

Q&A

Hi, do you know if there are currently any measures in place to speed up the application process to legally assemble this and to run alcohol through it in Australia?
Hi Tim, so far as we are aware the excise licence that you get from the ATO is only for alcoholic beverages that you drink. If you are making alcohol for hand sanitiser, you do not need a licence and do not pay excise on this. That said, the ATO say that you need permission for a still over 5L. I do not know if they have put any measures in place to speed up this permission process. I suggest giving them a call to see if they can help you.
