The stage that actually makes the water taste good. A solid block of 100% coconut shell activated carbon strips chlorine, chloramine by-products, taste and odour out of mains water — the difference between water you drink because you should and water you drink because you want to.
If you're running a sparkling water tap, this is not optional in any real sense. Carbonating chlorinated water concentrates exactly the flavours you're trying to avoid.
Why coconut carbon block
Coconut shell carbon carries a high iodine number, meaning more surface area and better chlorine removal per litre than generic granular carbon. Because it's a solid block rather than loose granules, water is forced through the carbon rather than channelling around it, so you get consistent performance across the cartridge's life.
Choosing a micron rating
The 1 micron block filters finer and is the better choice for drinking water and sparkling water systems. The 5 micron block flows faster and suits higher-volume applications or setups where a separate sediment stage is already doing the fine work.
Specifications
- Standard 10" x 2.5" — fits common twin and single housings
- 100% pure coconut shell activated carbon block
- Run as second stage, after a sediment cartridge
When to replace
Every six to twelve months. Carbon has a finite capacity — once it's saturated it stops working, and unlike a blocked sediment filter it won't announce itself by slowing the flow. Diarise it.
