Craft Starter Kit is a two-condenser home distillery: a Turbo 500 (T500) copper reflux condenser for high-purity neutral spirit and a Create+ copper Alembic dome top and pot condenser for full-flavoured craft spirits, both running on a Create+ 25L boiler. It makes 8L of 40% alcohol per batch and includes the consumables for your first batch.

How to use

  1. Make a sugar wash in the 30L fermenter with the 6kg Turbo Sugar, Classic 6 Yeast and Turbo Carbon. If you fill the airlock, use water rather than the cap so gas can escape.
  2. Clear the wash with Turbo Clear and transfer it to the Create+ boiler with Distillers Conditioner and boil enhancers.
  3. For neutral spirit, fit the T500 copper condenser (now pre-packed with saddles) and connect cooling water with the flow controller or hose adaptor. A water flow regulator is highly recommended on household water.
  4. For full-flavoured spirits such as whiskey, rum or brandy, fit the Alembic dome top and pot condenser instead.
  5. Check strength with the alcometer, filter through the EZ Filter, dilute and flavour with the Top Shelf essences.

FAQ

Why are there two condensers?

The T500 copper reflux condenser makes high-purity neutral spirit for vodka, gin and liqueurs. The Alembic pot condenser keeps the flavour in, for whiskey, rum and brandy washes made from traditional ingredients.

What do I need for my next batch?

A Classic 6 Batch Pack plus 6kg of white sugar or dextrose for each 8L batch.

Can I choose the essences?

No. The essences in this kit are pre-packed and come as a random assortment.

Can I make whiskey with the Alembic?

Yes. The Alembic dome and condenser can also be used with a Grainfather to make whiskey and bourbon from grain.

Hi folks, Thinking of buying a Turbo 500 and I am keen to try making whiskeys. How many times can you use the oak spiral? Is it a single use deal, or can you use it more frequently?
Hey there! You can use it more than once, with decreasing effect each time. If you want a strong oak flavour each time a new one is preferred. If you're happy with something more mild, reuse is fine.
