Originally created in the 1950s by Jack Horner and his team at Oregon State University, Cascade hops have become an enduring favorite among American hops. Since its release in 1972, Cascade has accounted for around 10% of hops grown in the US due to its vigorous growth and high yields. When brewed, it boasts a captivating spicy citrus aroma with subtle notes of grapefruit. Suitable for a variety of ales and lagers, it is especially beloved in American Pale Ales. While it may have lower storage stability, its widespread popularity and production by major US breweries ensures that harvests are quickly put to use. Named after the Cascade Range that spans from northern California to British Columbia, Canada, this hop was created through cross-pollination of the English Fuggle variety and the Russian Serebrianka variety.
