Purple liqueur with a strong aniseed and delicate liquorice flavour. 

Add essence and 790ml Alcohol @ 40% to Still Spirits Liqueur Base "A" (made up as per Liqueur Base A instructions). Alternatively 150ml Sugar and 100ml Liquid Glucose. Top up to 1.125L with water. Gluten Free.

Cocktail Suggestion: Dracula's Kiss

This martini is inspired by a recipe on The Spirit website. It’s a variation on the classic Licorice Stick, using black sambuca as its base. Not everyone loves the taste of sambuca, but the inclusion of chocolate-flavoured liqueur gives this drink wider appeal. For extra dramatic effect, pour grenadine into a small vial and add a drop of “blood” to each drink before serving. 

In a martini shaker, shake ice, black sambuca, vodka and crème de cacao. Strain and pour into a martini glass. Add drop of grenadine. Garnish with licorice.

How many litres of sambuca will one bottle of essence make.
Hi Greg, the Top Shelf Black Sambuca Essence makes 1.125L, this is the same for all the Top Shelf Liqueur and Schnapps Essences. On the other hand, Top Shelf Spirit Essences make 2.25L per essence bottle.
When you say sugar syrup do you mean sugar added to equal part water e.g. 200ml sugar with 200ml water.

Hi Is this essence alcoholic? Years ago I used to buy the Hoyts Star Anise Essence which was about 40% alcohol to make black zambucca until they stopped making it. Cheers Paul
Hi Paul, no this essence is not alcoholic. You need add 790ml Alcohol @ 40% ABV which can be any neutral spirit like a vodka for instance. Then you add the Still Spirits Liqueur Base "A" (made up as per Liqueur Base A instructions), or instead of using the liqueur base you can use 150ml Sugar Syrup and 100ml Liquid Glucose, and after that you top up to 1.125L with water, so you will end up making 1.125L of Black Sambuca total.
