Hi, New to distilling, are you able to do grain alcohol in the Still Spirits Turbo 500 distiller ? What I want to make is the equivalent to Everclear from the US, which is 190 proof, 95% Alcohol by volume ? Please let me know. Cheers Carlos
Hi Carlos, you can make high proof alcohol up to 186 proof, 93% Alcohol by volume with the Turbo 500, not with grain but with sugar. This skips a step, alcohol is made from yeast eating sugar. When alcohol is make with grains, an enzyme is added to break down the grains so that the yeast can access the sugar in the grains to eat. Everclear uses grain because it's cheaper than using refined sugar, but the results using sugar instead of grains is the same, and it's easier. Hey Dylan, this is a super common question so I'm glad you asked. Sometimes the water pressure you're connected to isn't consistent, drops in pressure will increase the temperature, increases in pressure will decrease the temperature. Hence you need to keep adjusting the water flow controller to compensate for this. The water flow regulator removes the need to make these adjustments. It's a pump the regulates the water flow so it's consistent the whole time meaning the temperature is consistent the whole time (so long as there aren't wild swings in the actual water temperature you're using). It makes the process a lot easier.
