East Kent Golding is renowned as the ultimate English hop - a centuries-old variety grown exclusively in the captivating region of Kent, England. Its roots can be traced back to Canterbury Whitebine, and despite the interchangeable use of the names East Kent Golding and Canterbury Golding, there is no evidence to suggest that they are distinct varieties. In fact, the variety first gained fame under the name East Kent Golding in 1838. This beloved hop boasts a good yield in its homeland, but its introduction to Oregon in 1994 revealed an even better yield. True to its English roots, it offers a magnificent aroma of lavender, spice, honey, and thyme. Its flavor is delightfully earthy and mildly bitter, with a silky, honey-like sweetness. It's no wonder that East Kent Golding has long been revered as the quintessential English hop, a favorite for ales and pale ales alike.
